For many of us the room thermostat is just a gadget to control the temperature inside our homes, however, what we do not understand is that science has leaped into the future in this technology as well which implies that as computers are becoming smarter so are our heating controls which have basically become mini computers tasked to control our heating temperatures.
Are old thermostats heading to the scrapheap?
The new thermostats are better equipped to cater to our needs, meaning that the old thermostats are dinosaurs in today’s world. It is only a matter of time when all the old thermostats will be replaced with the new modern and more intelligent heating controls.
The Top Intelligent Heating Control products on the market include
There is an abundance of heating controls in the UK markets ready to cater to the needs of the consumers. While all claim to be highly intelligent systems there are four that stand out from the rest; including Nest, Hive (from British Gas), Tado and the Honeywell evohome. And among these Hive is currently getting heavily advertised, in the British press.
Nest

Google in 2014 bought out Nest for £2billion – showing that intelligent heating controls have a bright future.
Nest Intelligent thermostat is like all the existing thermostats in the market but only a lot more advanced. One of its prominent features includes the swiping ability as you can swipe your finger over the touch sensitive screen to change the temperature.
The Nest Intelligent thermostat begins to learn the user’s heating patterns post installation. You are required to manually change the settings over the first couple of weeks and develop an auto – schedule to automatically do this.
This spectacular piece of hardware has temperature, humidity and light sensors behind the sensor window, helping it to react more intelligently to changing conditions. The Nest can also be remotely controlled.
The controls are compatible with IOS and Android, giving to the capability to check usage from tablet, computer and phone.
The British Gas Hive

The second most advanced heating control is the British Gas Hive. The kit includes: the receiver which is installed by an engineer to the boiler, a wireless thermostat, a hub box that is plugged into your broadband router allowing you to control the wireless thermostat with a computer app.
The Hive app, is a great tool to help user control their control their heating remotely from any part of the country.
Tado

The Tado allows users to control the temperature and the heating on/off times. It comprises of the Tado box, the Tado connector for your broadband and the temperature motion sensor.
Simply connect the Tado box in your existing thermostat or you could also wire it straight into the heating system to get it to work.
Honeywell evohome

The Honeywell evohome is a step away from old thermostats as this system allows the users to set up heating zones in the residence that can be set at different temperatures.
Overall the new thermostats are here to make our lives easier and with the growing advancements in this technology better system are yet to come.
